They served many types of ikan bakar (grilled fish). During normal days there were not many clients and you can just walk-in to order. However, during the month of Ramadan, you need to make an early reservation as the place will be quite crowded with Muslims breaking their fast there.

Nasi Kandar Beratur (daytime)

Beratur means queuing.

Many had known and had tasted the Nasi Kandar Beratur beside the Masjid Kapitan Keling at night but few knew that it is also open for lunch during daytime.

If you're not the type that eats late at night or do not like to wait in a long queue just to have a meal, you can try having lunch at the same place. The best part is, during daytime the clients are not as many as during night time. Hence, you don't have to beratur to get your lunch.

The unique thing about the Nasi Kandar Beratur is that there are two separate owners with separate business entities managing it on different schedule. One during night time as many had always known and the other during daytime.

Both daytime and nighttime nasi kandar are excellent.

The coordinates:
5°24'59.9"N 100°20'15.6"E
5.416631, 100.337679

The basic of nasi kandar: beef, boiled egg & ladyfingers.

Apart from the Mee Jawa, its Nasi Goreng is also nice.

They open from Monday to Thursday only from 11.30am to 6.00pm.

Ali Nasi Kandar

Ali Nasi Kandar is located at Jalan Pasar, Bukit Mertajam beside the taxi stand.

Coordinates:
5°21'53.7"N 100°27'37.0"E
5.364911, 100.460290

Its specialty is the Ayam Goreng Bawang (fried chicken with onion). The fried mutton is also nice.

One thing that made this outlet different from the other nasi kandar outlets is the rice. Many nasi kandar outlets drained the starch away from the rice when they cook but this one doesn't.

I don't know what type of rice they used. It's not the Siamese rice but the taste is quite close.

Introduction

Prai River

I am writing this blog about Penang food just for fun. Seems Penang is dubbed as the food heaven of Malaysia and I am a Penang born guy who love the variety of foods in this small state, might as well I share what I am having for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night supper.

There are lots of other blogs about the food in Penang being written by professional food critics. My blog shall be a simple one - with some photos, a little information and the most important thing is the exact location. I'll include the coordinates for your easy search using Google Map.

The food outlets that I share here are well-known and there are also some which are known only to the locals. This might help the non-Penangites who had been exposed only to the 'famous' and overrated food outlets in Penang to find and explore the places that are being preferred by the locals.

I shall not brag, condemn or exaggerate about anything. I will just share the meals and drinks which I regularly have daily or leisure.

Hope this blog could be of help in finding some of the best food in Penang.

Enjoy!
